THE IDEA
A vector records an ordered set of values. A matrix can organise a dataset or describe a linear transformation. Multiplication combines the columns of A using the entries of x as weights. The picture shows the same grid before and after a shear.
y = Ax
Check the meaning, units and dimensions of every axis. A mathematically valid product can still combine the wrong quantities.
TRY IT YOURSELF
Under A = [[1, 1], [0, 1]], where does x = (2, 1) go?
Ax = (3, 1). The second coordinate stays fixed while it also contributes to the first coordinate.
